Just out of a matter of interest, how many of you guys are spinning for macks with success or are you'd all using feathers?
I prefer spinning/lure fishing myself

I only use spinners when fishing for Macks, I take what I need usually about 4, then put on a pair of latex gloves and put any more I catch back.

Their skin is very sensitive and they have a thin film if touched or broken then it will kill them a few hours later, so best to hold the hook at the eye and shake them off.MackDublin wrote:Mozza, why the cavity search before you release them?Mozza wrote:I only use spinners when fishing for Macks, I take what I need usually about 4, then put on a pair of latex gloves and put any more I catch back.

As Richie says their skin is very sensitive, even though only microscopically damaged, the mackerel's skin continues to break down and death is inevitable within 30 hours.

Full houses all round this evening in skerries ,most on the small side ,also seen a squid come in on feathers, which explains why I got loads of bites on the float and no hook ups ,was talking to a guy who said that a good few squid were landed over the last few days ,I might even try for them I think I have a few jigs in me shed somewhere

Cobh on Saturday (high water) still no shortage of them.
I was like boat fishing at times, just drop it over the wall and jig away until you had a full house
