Boyne Estuary Fishing

#1 Post by Navanman01 »

Hello,
Has anybody in the forum got any experience of fishing the boyne estuary? I have had limited success in the upper reaches catching flounder, small codling and some accidental eels! I've tried the port and the old fish factory but have had more success further up the estuary! Has anybody else had better luck in this location?

Good in summer for sea trout, sometimes mackerel and bass too but the local beaches would be better. Not great around this time of year. I'm 2 mins away from the estuary and wouldn't touch it this time of year.

I think the recent floods of freshwater have put an end to exploration but I'm fairly certain there must be good flounder hiding in this expansive estuary. I've heard the fish factory had produced some specimens in the past but have had more luck til now fishing practically in the town!

I used to catch bass fairly regularly from there and some big flounder as we'll every year around baltray from mid summer to October grant it I haves fished it in a good few years now but it does produce in summer a incoming evening tide preferably with a bit of a surf running and fresh crab kills around this area especially for the flounder

The beaches are lovely and fish better than people give them credit for!

I agree. You can have a brilliant session on any of the beaches once you fish them over the right tides and at the right stage of the tide. Same as all other parts of the country, knowledge of the venue is essential.
