What's the best shock leader knot

#1 Post by evan699 »

Just wondering what's the best knot to use to tie 80lb untapered shock leader to 30lb main line. Any ideas or links will be carefully inspected and considered.

Cheers,
Evan

allbright, spider hitch and bimini twist, tricky to learn ,but wont let you down, bimini looks untidy
for traveling through guides but wont restrict line flow, tournament casters favour the "blob knot"
I was sceptical about it at first,it has never let me down, but my casting is rubbish :D

Big congers in filthy rough ground so i want to be careful and make sure i land anything i hook. Bit of a distance to lift them up too.

I know how to tie this knot to form a loop. How do you use it to join leader to main line.

I used this knot for my leader. As mentioned about it was 30lb main line to 80lb shock leader. I fished that set up last night, I snagged up badly once and had to pull for a break. And by F**K it took some pulling. So it seems to do the job. When it did break, the main line snapped back with such force, it cut my knuckles open.

+1 for the spider hitch. Neil showed me it 3 weeks ago down in wicklow. Mastered it and love it!
