Best Wrasse Hook

#1 Post by Michael+C »

From your experiences guys, is there any hook in particular that you would recommend for wrasse, I understand that it may depend on what bait you as using, maybe crab or rag, but would like to hear your comments.

I use size one fine wire hooks, strong enough to land any wrasse and will bend out if snagged. Just a personal preferance

Mustad Circle Hooks, Demon something or other, size 1/0s are ideal for small hardback crabs, use a tiny bit of heavy elastic band as a tip to stop the crab getting off the barb (which they can do)...

Owner mosquito hook in size 2 or 4.... forged, offset, sticky sharp, turned eye... absolutely lethal for wrasse..
The gamakatsu F314 is not offset and i have seen plenty snap so I don't use them anymore..

Might be a tad early Paddy, but both sides of Waterford estuary ie Hook Head and Dunmore East where there is deep water meeting rock, give it a shot with rag or crab.

I use Cox and Rawle Chinu 1/0 hooks when fishing rag for wrasse. Perfect for the rag, never bend and stay sharp.
