out with the kids and dog for a walk this evening at the top end of woodstown creadon dunmore side say and noticed a few mussels on the rocks big enough for eatin kids beggin me to bring em home but something tellin me there not safe any one any info on this i could swear i remember being told not to eat shell fish off this beach am i wrong i see tractors heading out all the time gettin stuff on low water

Id stay on the side of caution, i was in stradbally cove today and signs from last year saying "no Swimming" due to ecoli. But saying that my father has an oyster farm in Dungarvan and there is no issues as far as i know.

reading your comment reminded me that over the weekend i was in Dunnes in Dungarvan and was looking at the freesh seafood out of curiousity and there was a big tray of mussles and 50% of them were open!! I asked the person working there is this normal and theyd no idea.. recipe for disaster

They can be open, but should close if you tap them, bin them if they don't (or use them for bait).
They should open when you cook them, again bin any that don't.

Any that don't close should be binned alright but the ones that don't open when you cook them are still fine to eat.

Lol I wouldn't eat one if it didn't open after cooking it's a sure sign it was dead!!!

Razor clams are very tasty but a bit rubbery .
