There was a small piece in the Indo Yesterday on this one. It seems the boats was run out of Australia recently by a series of Green Piece protests. Aparently is over for the "annual" blue whiting season. Very cloak and dagger stuff! Somehow the Managed to swap 5000 Tonnes of Mackeral Quota for equal Blue Whiting Quota... I wonder how long it will be before there is nothing left?

The Australian Government actually changed their legislation so they could ban it fishing their waters. Some chance of that happing here.

That is unfortunately annihilating EVERYTHING! Won't be much catching for me this summer i'd say.
A bad days fishing is still better then a good day at the office.

never mind the fish that they have quota to target. I would be more concerned with the by catch that's gonna end up dumped back dead from a trawl that size.
a net with an opening that wide will be as indiscriminate as hell out there :x

Doesn't look like she's going anywhere either. Wouldn't pay much heed to the comments from the navy either!

She came here according to reports with 150 tonne of mackerel quoata which she is meant to have swapped for 5000 tonne of blue whiting but she headed straight to mayo/donegal where the scad and mackerel are. The problem here is Ireland has little say as its eu waters outside of the 12mile out to 200 miles.
Also interesting the talk about this being the "2nd biggest trawler in the world" because the number 1 biggest trawler in the world plus a dozen similar have been fishing the same area since october

Ya I found it interesting all the fuss being made about this boat when there's still three or four other 100m+ trawlers up there! But aside from all that no one up top really gives a sh!t about it so they'll never do anything, and that's the saddest thing of all...

That area is full of seed mackerel. The irish boats cant fish it because they would have to land the seed mackerel but a factory ship can pump those over the side fishing 24/7
