rod protection from tripods

A silly question but one that i need to ask for a few ideas

.Despite taking good care of my beachcasters ie washing etc i still manage to get scratches on them especially on the butt sections and i can only assume its from the tripod heads

It does'nt make a blind bit of differance to rod action or even catching fish but i was just curious to what lads use on the tripod heads for a little bit of extra protection in case of scratches.I've tried bits of lagging foam in the past but never lasts that long and saw the mightybrite stuff but just curious if anything else handy that can be used.Its not the end of the world if they get scratched but id just like to try prevent any avoidable scuff marks if i can.

ive seen one person using little foam circles that are for under chair legs and coffee table corners to stop them scratching wooden floors. you should get them in any diy store. he reckons they work a treat.
ive seen reviews on other forums about the mighty bright foam and its meant to be very good but never seen anyone using it

I cut strips of Hurling Grip to fit inside the tripod heads, it keeps the rod from sliding out far better and dosnt get sand sticking to it and avoids scratches.

My rods are all almost scratch free as a result.

you could change the tripod head...I got a new one from veals m.o,with thin soft touch rubber coating on it ,think it was under a fiver, parker hale or john roberts is the make.

Thanks lads some good pointers there and i'll be checking them out very soon.I have some karakal lying around so might try that first.

you only go fishing twice a year that will keep any rod scratch free

my rods have a few places here or their with no scratches but they are a work in progress

scratchy rods catch more fish shiney ones reflect sun and moonlight scaring off the fish

Buy a length of plumbing pipe insulation the plastic foam type and cut into 3 inch pieces fit it around the rod where it sits onto the tripod.it wont effect the rods casting or fish playing you can also alter it so you can rest the rod againt a harbour wall or railing

you could fit a piece of shrink tube to the rod where it sits in the rod rest cup and that would stop it getting marked.!!!
