Tope from shore

Have been interested in trying for one for a good while now. Can anyone give me general tips such as habitat, neap/spring tides, features to look out for etc. Am from Dublin and don't drive so will mainly be fishing blackrock, monkstown and killiney area. I reckon they might come close inshore to feed on coalie and whiting around this time of year. I'll probably try to cast out with a single weight for distance, then attach a swivel with tope trace, mackerel head and weight. This will be followed with a ground bait device attached to line and then let slide down to the seabed. Am I wasting my time? Pms welcome!

Youd be wasting your time, Autumn on a smaller tide on Greystones or Killcoole is a better bet.

Best time of the year, is April on . Big flounder fillets are meant to be a good job. Cast out on low water and wait, the water could be filling for hours before you get any interest if you get any interest. As the lads said patience is required and alot of rod hours. I would suggest carrying a second rod and do a bit of surf fishing to pass the time.

i think you still have a chance greystones to killcole coming small tide at night whole mackeral baits 10/0 meat hooks we have had them there in december hope this helps
