Fethard On Sea

Hi everyone

It's been a long time since I've been on here and similarly it's been ages since I've managed to get out fishing. Myself and the family are staying in Fethard On Sea next weekend so I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to get some fishing in. Can anybody recommend a good spot in the area to fish?

All around the mouth of the bannow estuary is worth a try for bass and flats and the south facing beaches such as cullanstown and rostoonstown are all worth a try for mixed species including bass flats and smoothounds and hook head throws up huss ,Pollack ,wrasse etc spoilt for choice really there is loads of marks within a twenty min drive from you

Always liked the look of Dollar bay and Bolley Bay, cant remember which one I have been on but rocks to the left and right look very bassey. Real surface popper territory. We have friends there and I have brought the rods a few times but drinking til 4 and getting up at 5 dont mix..!

Dollar bay and bolley bay do not fish well - they look great but dont produce

I suppose if Wexford in general isnt fishing well then maybe but its location, and the look of the beach screams bass. I googled it and found plenty of refernce to bass about the beaches. This is just one :

"The twin coves of Dollar and Booley Bays (10) which are divided in the middle by the rocky ridge of Black Point are popular bass fishing locations. A number of 4.5kg plus fish have been recorded there over the years with sandeel and crab baits accounting for most of the bigger fish. In recent seasons, these locations have attracted anglers practising plug and fly fishing for bass with the middle of the beach close to the rock proving more productive than the open stretches of sand on either side. Dogfish, dab, flounder, plaice, seatrout and silver eel are also possible there, particularly on night tides."

I would love a week here to fish it over a few various tides to give it a go.

Ballyhack can produce good flounder,codling,whiting if there are no boats tied up on the harbour.

yep Booley & Dollar do not fish well, and like corbyeire says, not even a flounder to be had...beaches are too clean

Thanks lads. Has anybody any experience of fishing the beach in Grange Court?

Had the same experience blanking on dollar.

Bannow Island is worth a shot 2hrs either side of low water. Only caught here on peeler crab. Last trip 1st cast produced 2x bass 2nd cast 1 bass.
Ballyhack is defo worth a shot too. same again with the tide as the pull can make it unfishable especially on a spring tide.
