Fish ID

#1 Post by RockySXC »

Need help to identify fish, no pictures i am afraid! Just a visual description
while fishing yesterday evening at high tide in waste deep water i spotted a fish that appeared to be sitting on top of the weed, i could see his back breached out of the water. anyway i casted past him and retrieved my lure which actually hit him before he sunk down and disappered, i also seen some swirls in water in same area. as i aam new to fishing i am really hoping that these are bass i am seeing and not mullet? HELP! :?

Hard to say to be honest.
Mullet often wander around with a tip of a fin swirling out of the water with an occasional flash of their belly as they flip sideways.. god knows why.

Length - all I could see was about 8inches out if the water
Colour - very dark, light was poor so hard to tell what colour
That's all the info really. Could this have been a bass, is it 'normal' behaviour?

Mullet act like that swirling on the top of the water some will follow a lure but most just ignore them
