Shore Casting Multiplier Reel
i hvae been using a multilier reel with a level wind for beach casting but keep getting birds nests when i try and cast long distances. i feel the level wind is causing this...
any info on a good mid-priced multiplier with no level wind would be appreciated.
thanks,
john

Re: Shore Casting Multiplier Reel
daiwa slosh 20 the break blocks come in the box (red ones ) -put those in and set the spool so that there is just the slightest bit of sideplay in the spool-one of the best multipliers on the market and going now at a great price.

Re: Shore Casting Multiplier Reel
The slosh is a great reel a powerhouse but a bit big for general shore fishing look on this site for a penn 525mag it will do everything you,ll get on for about eighty quid

Re: Shore Casting Multiplier Reel
That's a bargain for a 525mag 2 but them hi speeds are bad news there usually trouble with the gears after a while

Re: Shore Casting Multiplier Reel
Smooth progressive casting, rather than aggressive snatchy casting can avoid birds

Re: Shore Casting Multiplier Reel
Howya johnbass. I doubt it's the levelwind is causing the birds nests for you as I had similar TORTURE when starting with multi's and as the lads say a slow progressive cast is the way to go. I also found that you may need to be aiming your cast at a higher angle. You have to be ready to stop the reel over running with your thumb as soon as the lead hits the water and make sure there isn't too much sidewards play in the reel. Before you shell out for a new reel maybe you should remove the levelwind off of your current reel and and work out where your downfalls are. Make sure you are pushing and pulling correctly to bring your rod through the correct arc and most definitely do not snatch at the cast. It's taken me a long time to try iron out my faults and I'm sure I still have many
Ps I have a slosh 20 and I reckon it's a great reel for general fishing, and VERY forgiving !!!

Re: Shore Casting Multiplier Reel
You can simply swap the levelwind cage for a CT one, with two diff cages you can have the best of both worlds with the one reel, is it an ABU 6500 size reel? If so I think have a few spare cages if you need one..

Re: Shore Casting Multiplier Reel
I wouldnt remove the level wind ive done it on a reel before and it messed it up you could change the cage if possible however you would be better off buying a reel for casting/fishing the 6500 Abu's are good and Diawa 7ht is also a good beach casting reel. what type of ground will you be fishing over because if its any kind rough it might be better to go for a penn 525.
Wish list for 2015: sword tail, black Molly, horny cobbler

Re: Shore Casting Multiplier Reel
I started multi s just recently
Got an abu 6500 ct mag
After I figured out how the set the mag and brake blocks I thankfully am nt pulling what little hair I have out No birds nest. Slow and smooth off the ground for a while !
I ll leave the pendulum casting to the experts !!

Re: Shore Casting Multiplier Reel
thanks for all the advice lads.
decided to leave the level wind on the reel... ill keep it for boat fishing.
bought a Daiwa Slosh 30 and used it on sunday in greystones. not one birds nest and was getting 80-100m casting without too much effort.
