SHOCKLEADER KNOT, WHAT DO YOU USE? MULTI USERS
What do people use for typical 15lb to 60lb shock? ( actually use as opposed to a link to a knot)
Have you noticed lines which simply will not match together for a knot?
Cheers.
ps: I was 2 hours last night trying to tie a shockleader knot on a reel, mainlines were ( tried 3 different ones) all perfect as were the shockleaders ( 6 different brands) and it simply would not tie! I almost gave up fishing!

Re: SHOCKLEADER KNOT, WHAT DO YOU USE? MULTI USERS
in relation to that vid........i use the same knot but, at the first circle part of leader put the tag end thru again, before you put the main line thru it pull the leader to form like a figure of 8 knot, then put ur mainline thru each loop in the figure of 8, tighten and finish off exactly the same way as the vid........i just find this makes the knot a little slimmer and a bit more secure the way it tightens on the main line(u would have to try to see), and the tag end from the leader is actualy snipped off facing u, rather than jutting out the side.......ps,at the tightening of the leader to main line just pull the main line thru another couple of inches before you finish the knot......cos at first tighten its a weak point......
hope this helps kstaff..........

Re: SHOCKLEADER KNOT, WHAT DO YOU USE? MULTI USERS
Kstaff askin how to tie a knot, what next? How to peel a crab? How to thread on a lug?
next time your around let the west cork lads know and we can set up a lesson on rigs and knots for ya
All ive ever used is the albright knot. First with ultima distance and for the last 2 years with suffix tritanium both in .35m to either 50 or 60lb powerflex. Ive never had any issues with it.

second that, quick and easy to tie, a very neat but strong knot. Never has let me down.Shambo wrote:Been using a blob knot recently myself, no complaints so far http://www.ultimauk.com/sea/knots/Blob.php

Re: SHOCKLEADER KNOT, WHAT DO YOU USE? MULTI USERS
Apologies for causing offense but that video is awful!
It missed two major safety points and one minor practicality issue. Firstly the minor -you can trim those tabs much shorter than that, esp on the shockleader as that will catch your tip eye and every piece of weed it touches which will drive you mad! Secondly when you first tighen the shockleader onto the mainline in the first step you MUST pull the mainline through the knot! The initial tightening of the shockleader on the mainline will kink the mainline underneath, creating a weak point in the line, and you must pull this through so its out of the knot. I only put about an inch of mainline into the first knot, tighten and pull the mainline though to form the loop in the mainline making sure the damaged bit is not in the knot itself and will be trimmed off. Lastly you must moisten the knot with saliva when pulling it tight, this will stop damage to both lines through friction. This is a great knot if done right, I use it all the time, but very weak if done wrong! Just some observations that might save someone a lost fish or two...

Cheers all for taking the time to reply, it's rare I have an issue with that stanard one but for the life of me it simply wouldnt tie. I'll do the same lines again tonight and may offer a reward to whomever ties the knot i was trying to do without it failing on test!!!

Ahh the highest level, if only Sam
Tell you what, we will meet up and if you can do the knot ( without me pulling it apart under testing pressure) I was doing with the lines I was using I'll eat a raw fish!

Re: SHOCKLEADER KNOT, WHAT DO YOU USE? MULTI USERS
The Albright Knot? There are a few variations of it from what ive been looking at recently,I dont have faith in my leader connection of old and want to get a solid leader knot naturally! The albright is very quick to tie, neat and strong.(from the below video)and i want to use it.
Heres One of the videos ive been looking at.Just wondering can it be used For mono to mono?It only seems to be Referred In tying A braid to Mono!
And also five tuns up and down?Every video seems to have differnet ideas on that i.e 10turns etc!Sorry for hijacking your post!
