Re: Amount of leader
I normally use a leader twice the length of the rod and around 4-6 turns on the reel for good measure.

Re: Amount of leader
I Usually go the lenght of the rod and three or four turns on the spool . If I'm fishing a pier or high wall I might go a tad longer just to lift a fish if i forget the net

Re: Amount of leader
Most of my rods are 13ft, so i usually have between 20-25ft of leader on the multis and 15-20 ft on the fixed spools..
Good things come to those who bait.

Re: Amount of leader
This is the knot that I use for joining main line to shockleader. It is very strong and I can honestly say I have never had any problems with it coming apart:
http://www.ultimauk.com/sea/knots/Blob.php
The big advantage of the blob knot is that you can use a large diameter shockleader line as you do not have to pull a knot tight in it. Simply touch the end of the shockleader into the flame of a lighter until it melts into a small blob. (Not too big).
Then simply tie main the line as shown. Use plenty of saliva to pull it tight. Make sure you pull your main line tight up against the blob of the shockleader before cutting off the tag.

Re: Amount of leader
reel down, its 8-10 turns on the reel ,plus leader about half length of rod, reel up,the 8 or 10 turns should do.

Re: Amount of leader
i was using tapered shockleader but with the current economic climate i,ve gone back to normal shockleader
the tapered carp leader 40lb to 15 lb is a dream for light work in the summer
