Making Rigs Query

Ive been making my rigs using 40lb shock leader.

Is this right or should i be using lighter line and just putting the shock on my reel.
Species 2010.(2) Doggie, Cod
Species 2011.(12) Dab, Coalie, 5 Bearded Rockling, Whiting, Doggie, Pollock, Shanny/Common Blenny, Silver Eel, Mackerel, Wrasse, Sting Ray, Cod

Species 2012.(5) Sea Scorpion, Pollock, sand eel, mackerel, corkwing wrasse.

you should always use the same breaking strain line for your rigs that you do yer shockleaders... i personall wouldnt go below 60lb...

just use the 10:1 rule with rig body's the same as you would for shock leader.

10lbs breaking strain for every 1oz weight in lead. :wink:

Match the rig body with shock leader but I would go lower for the snoods - 20 - 30lb

m8 best thing ever done was bought small selection of good (Pro) rigs then used the basic's to create me own versions!..luv tryin new rigs and tis a great buss when ya startin catchin...best luck :wink:

I use 50 to 60lb for the main body of my rigs and as a rule i don't go below 30lb for my snoods,

Gerryl your spot on, when i started to make rigs did the same, some crack when you start catching on your own rigs :wink:

If you are casting any distance then your rig body should be the same breaking strain as your leader, BUT if you are fishing for flats and bass in the breakers and not casting hard 40lb and even lower is fine a 60lb trace body fishing 10 yards out is overkill IMO...................
