waterproof smock

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

I have the new Titan breathable Smock and find it a great job. Was out a couple of weeks back for about 4 hours with consistant rain & wind and it held up well. See below link you can buy direct from Titan. It is also lined for warmth and is light.

I also have the Greys Apollo Bib & Brace and Smock, however they do leak a bit after a while around the seams

Ive used a few, and have the shakespere salt one at the moment its a good smock, but its a pain to wash as its handwash only and ive to add special detergant that isnt cheap. Id go with the sailing gear.

I have an afaw smock, which must be the only one in the country which never leaks, not generally available anymore which speaks volumes,I know that GIL sailing gear is top class,so is Henry Lloyd ,but pricey.

I also have a newer Titan smock which I cannot fault, nice fit very comfy and hasn't let any rain in yet.

I'll go with that one. I use a Helly Hansen jacket that I picked up cheap and is spot on. Not massively lined, but totally wind and waterproof. It's light, packs down to not much and does the job perfectly. Under it I have another Helly, a mid layer (came cheap with the top layer), that keeps me nice and warm and allows movement as well.

Hunt around and if you're lucky you'll get something like mine, I think I paid about €130 for three jackets that were at one point about €200 each. I picked them up from a retail outlet while on holiday but you might get them here too. The lesson for me (after a few fishing branded jackets) is that quality sailing, or snowboarding (used that too you look like a right dude on the beach) stuff is infinitely better than you'll get from the tackle shop.
