Re: Best Car for Sea Anglers?
alby have they taken back the company helicopter
i think a second hand ceed estate would be a good choice you would get the extra initial outlay back in no time with the cheaper road tax and better fuel figures if you would like a powerpoint presentation with expected savings and comparible running costs and help with your loan application DONT ASK ME!!!!

Re: Best Car for Sea Anglers?
I had a petrol freelander that had 5 engines under landrover warranty, my wife has a deisel one now, no problems for three years.JOHN1 wrote:i here thats one of the big letdowns about land rovers, seems they are more prone too been off the road than on it, what ailment is your's suffering withshamoo0804 wrote:+1 on the Landrover cant wait to have mine back on the road,

The pre 5 tdi Defenders are fairly reliable but I think they have tried to make them too smooth and the onboard computers give a bit of grief.
If Landrover made a petrol engined A**e-wiping machine I wouldn't have one as a gift

Skoda Yeti!
Doesnt look the best but its 4X4, Really low tax and low fuel consumption yet a passenger vehicle. Have a pajero sport and a kia ceed myself and the ceed is very economical but you cant beat the old jeep for just horsing gear into and getting to those hard to reach spots! Even if you only really need to once or twice a year.

Gearboxwhat ailment is your's suffering with
But thankfully these old defenders are very cheap to fix, and will last a lifetime if serviced ok.
Wont lose money on one over 5-10 years either if you buy right in the 1st place.

Octavias are great for hauling gear, but be careful where you bring them..(oil sump doesn't have much clearance

Re: Best Car for Sea Anglers?
I must have got lucky with the Freelander we have at the moment then. I had been running a little fiat Doblo van, as you said dirt cheap to run, very reliable but only two seats and I ripped the sump paring it at the side of the road. €250 for an inch of ali weld and oil and a gasket. Dont take them off the flat road.croppyboy wrote:right i had the freeland 2lt deisel a load of crap gave me nothing but trouble i have a xsara now 1300 euros drop down the seats inthe back and you have plenty of room. otherwise buy a little berlingo costs f all and cheap to run

Re: Best Car for Sea Anglers?
Aaaaaaa lads its an obvious choice here if you not looking down the van route its gotta be the subaru imprezza wrx sti wagon, room for all the gear, will keep 4 lads in complete comfort while remaining stuck to the road while flat to the mat out chasing tides on back roads, adjustable diff,4wheel drive which is a big thing for uneven terrain whilst in the pursuit of the ultimate days fishing, 2.0 engine with a sweet power curve when the turbo kicks in, plenty of toys to keep you happy on route, tax aint to cheap nor is it a 40 mpg type bus but hey what the heck, loads of em about at the minute as boy racers have no money any more to pay for em due to the fact that the country is ducked, a future classic in the making,

Re: Best Car for Sea Anglers?
land rover for sure, mines a 1979 range rover
taxed and insured for 200 euro a year, drives anywhere. also just doing a diesel conversion on an old long wheel base series 3 , which opens up the option of kipping space in the back for the odd all night session

between 35 and 40 miles to the gallon...thats in two wheel drive only...in 4 wheel drive she will drink a bit more but all round it is a great jeep..lovely looking too...if you drive it hard it will drink juice but drive it handy and she is pretty economical for a vig jeep...
