Pollock fishing near Clogherhead

#1 Post by mackymurphy »

Hi just wondering does anybody have any known marks or any tips?
Bought a packet of jellyworms and berkley saltwater on friday

Also the lad in the tackle shop gave me 6/o hooks with weights attached to them, would these hooks do?

Thanks

scrap them 6/o  hooks just tie up a running ledger with 2/o hooks and retrieve the jelly worms across the bottom.. i use to catch pllock off the head using the same technique a few years ago.. float fished ragworm also works

Well, I think you'll be lucky to catch anything larger than a couple of ounces - 6/0 is way too big.

You might try size 12 hooks with really light gear - should be fun. Alternatively, try the really small Sabikis for sprats and sandeels and tiny pollack, cod, whiting and gurnard (tiny = 3 inches or less).

The only thing you'll catch of any size there is mackerel, but you have to wait for them to turn up.

loads of codling up to 40cm in clogherhead, crab is the best bait or you can get lug around at the beach, i use 4/0 hooks to try to avoid smaller fish
