Get yourself into McKees Angling Centre in Belfast, the advice alone on catching the one that got away will be worth the visit!! Great pricing from Anglers who know their stuff.

Re: Reels - Heavy Fixed spool Recomendations
I have a tica talisman th8000 like the one in the link below and can't fault it,the biggest fish I had on it was a 6 foot conger and it pulled it out of the hole like a winch, there was no rocking or straining on the reel leg like I have seen on some reels,it was solid, plus the reel will automatically slip the drag at 50kg/100lbs so it can be used for bigger fish, they are a bit pricey over here, the wife got I from china so it worked out a lot cheaper http://www.amazon.com/TICA-TG8000-Talis ... Re: Reels - Heavy Fixed spool Recomendations
I have a few questions too if I may hijack the thread - Im really not looking to spend a fortune on a reel but I would like a reel I can rely on if I somehow hit a 40lb conger or a good tope. I'm just not sure what I am looking for due to inexperience.
I have been looking and allot of reels have very shallow spools, I keep thinking I will empty them before im halfway out! So im not sure in that regard. see here for example
but then I could be just stupid!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O33 ... _i=3409771
I would be looking for something around the €100 mark, could stretch a bit maybe.

Re: Reels - Heavy Fixed spool Recomendations
I have always had penn reels always been worth there money you can get some good shimano and peen reels at the £100 mark
I also have a shallow spool reel filled with braid and I have not empty ed it yet my understanding is the shallow spools are for braid try to get something 8000 or above. my penn reel I have lost a topewith it was an 8000 but it is 5 years old it's done a lot of heavy fishing but this time it let me down with the drag slipping it could of got water in it to make it slip I have been told. The penn spin fisher definitely looks look it could do the job better. Hope this helps
