Wexford

#1 Post by ardinn »

Location. Castletown/Kilgorman Wexford
Bait. Rag, mackeral and squid
High tide. bout 10/11pm ish
Duration. 20.00-02.00
Rig. 3 Hook Flapper hook size 1/0 and clipped down 2/0

Started around 8 with some rag with mack, hooked my first doggie so in light it was my first I was chuffed - second cast with a mackerel head - another doggie - bit more sport from it. at about 12am I had unhooked my 6th - the novelty was wearing off!! Fell asleep at 1am and woke up at 2, no bait on the line and was lucky to still have a rod!!

Next day bout 10am hooked up some squid, mack and rag sausages that were probably way too big for anything bar tope, which i didnt get - decreased size of the baits dramatically and ditched the squid and started pulling in dabs/flounder, session cut short at 1pm due to having to head into work unexpectedly.

Enjoyable but I learned a lesson in bait size, and realized why dogs are a scurge, among a few other lessons, having a good head torch being one.

No weed to report.

Enjoyed that report. I've never feel asleep on a beach at night (without being drunk drunk and younger) but at night, fishing, alone no no.

If it helps Macks will always attract the doggies. If i want to save a blank or get a beginner a fish i would use them.

Switch to Crab, Rag and Lug squid alone or cocktails and you should trim them down. Not saying a big mack head isn't a great bait for conger or huss and even big bass but its just my personal preference from the shore.

Hey sorry for the late reply forfot I posted this - shad well in in st mullins but id say that storm sat night sent them packing for a few days.

I had a few drinks allright, but the beach is safe enough tide wise. and my trusty pooch was with me - he's lovely - Lovely but deadly!!!!!!!
