Recommendations for lightweight shore rod

#1 Post by Robk »

I'm wondering what type of lightweight rod lads are using for shore hopping
Something that can handle wrasse pollock etc up to 5/6 pound but isn't too long or heavy to be hauling around
Thanks

I've been using the Abu Garcia Diamond Crest Spin 9ft for my rock fishing, lures etc and it's a sturdy, reliable rod, and it only cost me £20 in Belfast Angling Centre. Couldn't do much better for more money imo.

Vengeance is a nice rod alright but my favourite rods from my inexpensive lure rod collection are the surecatch saltys. The abu devil spin are brilliant for €22 or so. I had lovely bass, wrasse, and pollock on my trusty devil 'till it met its end in the van door !

I have an Abu Devil, it's a great rod to start lure fishing with, great rod for the money.
I took mine out on the boat last year and had no trouble dealing with 6 lb pollock.

I must say that the tip is a bit soft, so the one thing it struggles with is "walking the dog" with surface lures. That's only nitpicking though. Otherwise I'm very happy with it.

Shimano vengeance.
I've dropped it off high rocks
Bounced it off walls
Squeezed into cars
Bent it almost 90^.
Still same as day one.
€40
Landed me big plops just to over 6lb no problem to it.
And still cast anything a huge distance with a nice bit of braid on reel.

I've got a Shakespeare Salt Flattie. Can't fault it for light fishing. Casts 1-3oz, light enough to flick spinners, float with it as well as light beach fishing. My son uses it off the beach with me (11 years old). Genuine Fuji rings and fittings. Best value rod I've got.

A great rod at a great price .Can be bought at the Belfast angling centre in shop or online.Got mine yesterday took only a few days to get to me. Very light with a great cast feel as well as being able to bend right over.a nice soft tip to it as well.
