Bass fishing braid

Heya lads I'm crazy to get onto the bass fishing on the lures and I'm just wondering what is the best braid to get and the best lures. I'll be getting a few tackle house feed shallows . A little bit of advice on what set up is best would be great lads . Thanks lads

I use a shimano exage 4000 size reel a 9' lure rod to 40g. Reel is loaded with 20lb power pro braid a brilliant line. Lures tackle house feed shallow savage gear sand eel payo sea shot lures. Use about 1 meter of floracarbon line tied to the braid with a small swivel & a lure clip on to the lure. Hope this helps you

I use a daiwa theory 3000 reel and 9ft lure rod rated 10-35g. The best line ever is daiwa 8 strand tournament braid. I have it in 25lb and it's as thin as 6lb ordinary braid, it just flys off the reel.. Lurewise all the above lures are good, I love the payo seashot lures as they're pretty inexpensive compared to the rest and I've caught my best bass with them. Happy fishing

Any idea what colors in lures work best . What would be the best payo sea shot and what would be the best feed shallow to get ... Thanks for the info lads

10lb powerpro is all you'll ever need, or perhaps 8lb

Hi ark welcome to the infuriating addictive world of lure fishing for bass!

I haven't used the payo lures so don't know about what colours to get.

Regarding feed shallows, people report a lot that the white colour (might be called "ayu") catches well. That being said, I cought my first ever lure bass on the colour called "sg silt sardine" it's an awesome lure I lost mine a few weeks ago and was sickened.

Just to have your bases covered, get some soft plastic lures too.the reason is you can't fish the feed shallows etc in very weedy/snaggy ground, whereas you can rig an SP "weedless" and fish it absolutely anywhere. just do a search here for weedless soft plastics and you'll get loads of info.

You'd do well have a root through the "lure fishing forum" here in this site. There's some good info there. You'll find that most questions you'll have will have been addressed.

Have a look at http://www.topfisher.eu - the is plenty on lures, line etc. there.

The best payo is the one with a fluro yellow back, white middle and orange belly. I've had two double figure bass on it this season + about 25-30 other fish.. The only feed shallow I ever get is the blue back with the red belly, they're too expensive to buy them all in my opinion... Regarding Rorys post on the braid, I'd much prefer a bit of overkill than losing a good fish

Yeah thanks lads that's great so if I go for about 20lb braid it should be ok then or will i go a tad lighter. I'm on two minds on which brand of braid to buy .... Daiwa tournament sounds good . I will have a look at those lures aswell kealan777 thanks. Is it a bit late to catch the bass on the lure now or are they still taking them . I think it slows up a bit when temperatures drop. I have a lot to learn . Thanks lads

What might defeat you at the moment won't be water temperature but clarity.If the weather has been bad and the water is very coloured, then your lure may not be visible. If the weather improves this month I'll certainly be giving the lures a go

To be honest Power Pro is starting to get a bit dated. A few years ago Power Pro was all the rage but now there far better braids for lure fishing and much cheaper alternatives. I'm not saying Power Pro is bad braid but for lure fishing there are far better ones available I'm currently using Sufix 832 18lb which is a different league in terms of being soft, subtle and responsive and it's not expensive either, about €20 for 120m
You'll see the difference yourself in what ever shop you're going to. Just take out a spool of Power Pro and spool of Sufix 832 and see the difference.

The Rating V’s Diameter Quandry & Fake Braid
Put simply, if you want to take your chances with line offered by some sellers on ebay you take your chances. If it looks to be very cheap then the chances are that the line you are buying is a fake. Choose your braid depending on what you want the braid to do for you. If you are beach fishing you may want abrasion resistance and strength and the “No Stretch”, then you can be less fussy about your braid as diameter will be less important. If you are fishing and want the benefit that lower diameter gives you then you must be more discerning about the braid you purchase. There is no set format to how braid is stated on the packet. EU sold braid is generally expressed in Absolute breaking strain. American braid is generally expressed in Lbs test. The Americans bring in a knot to the equation and therefore their line tends to be much thicker for the stated diameter than an EU braid. However many braids test to double their stated strength. The bottom line here is to be wary when ordering on line -The 20lb American labelled braid may have a diameter more like a 50 or 60lb braid (off the top of my head!). Most braids are thicker than the stated diameter…braid is not round so it is difficult to get a proper measurement. So do you buy : EU: 8.2kg 0.13mm or US 10lb 0.20mm (These are the specs for Sufix 832) Imagine you order 20lb US – it is going to be fairly thick! I use Strikepro Strikewire most of the time. I have tried many different high quality braids over the last couple of years and always tend to be happiest with StrikePro Strikewire (9kg 0.13mm). I was pleased with Sufix 832 recently too (18lb 0.13mm). I want the benefit of thin braid but need the benefit of some strength to pull through snags. There is a lot to be said for touchy feely in the shop! There are lots of forgeries on line. It is all braid so you are not doing too bad! Much of the time it is four strand sold as eight strand and such like. You are in the lap of the gods regarding diameters etc.

Thanks for that lads I'm not gonna be going for cheap version coz as stated above it won't be what it says it is . I don't mind spending any amount on it I want the best that's out there so it will do the job I want it to ... Thanks for the info lads

Hiya,
Have you used braid much before? No worries if you have (and you can ignore the rest of this post!), but if you haven't then bear in mind it can take a little time to get used to it - it is not as forgiving as mono. The last thing I would recommend if you are not familiar with braid is to shed out megabucks for it. A couple of windknots later and you might be kicking yourself!

As stated above Sufix 832 is very good braid in the 0.13mm size and can be had for the very reasonable sum of €22 (see Henrys Tackle website). I've had it on one of my reels for around 14 months, it's been tried and tested and I have had zero problems with it. Excellent stuff and as good as some lines twice the price imho. I do use other more expensive brands also (in the lower breaking strains suggested by Rory above) but the 0.13mm Suffix is a great alrounder that would cover most of your lure fishing needs. Your reel is going to be very important - some reels handle braid far better than others and I'd be looking to spend the extra cash on a better reel rather than better braid!

I'm with you Steve there -the reel is the one bit of equipment that you can't really skimp on.get a half decent one and mind it!

I have a Shimano Exage and it's excellent.should cost about €70.i used to use crap reels but one siezed up on me mid session so I swore I would get a decent one.

The difference between a good reel and a poor one is quite noticeable. Besides the enhanced reliability the line lay is a lot better (results in better casting) , the drag is a lot better (reduces chance of losing fish) and the anti reverse is better too
