Safe mackerel marks cork

#1 Post by cod chaser »

Hi lads going to take my 7 year old son mack fishing next week. As his my pride & joy would like to fish some place that's very safe. Have cobh & youghal in mind as you can fish from the quays. Has anyone got any other safe marks to fish from its only for macks thanks in advance

Keep clear of ballycotton, its tough trying to keep an eye out for yourself without trying to watch out for the young lad

When the macks are in (in numbers) the slipway by the lifeboat depot in kinsale (Bridge is a disaster with kids), the wall/pier/walkway in monkstown, aghada pier(Best spot for kids in my opinion) , east ferry pier(open front pier), the walk way in cobh( safe railing, be careful of walkers when casting), left or right of the first bridge in ringaskiddy before the crematorium(fishes best on dropping tide and they can build sandcastles if bored :) ) is where i bring my lot avoid kennedy pier in cobh at busy times and avoid the breakwater and pier in ballycotton at peak times to dangerous and too much crossing of lines and flying leads and guys drinking.
I found aghada pier and the rocky beach behind the petrol station best for kids.

If its early morning you can go anywhere.

Last year they were being caught all along the right hand side of the road as you go to Aghada as mentioned above. In fact if you continue down the road and go to white beach(long'ish walk downhill from car park) they were breaking on the beach, later in the season and evening high tides but very safe for kids.
