smoothies distribution??

#1 Post by Chris T »

Ok, went out on my first smoothie session to Rosslare strand last night. Plenty of bites, couple of doggies but no smoothies... Yet!

I'm really hoping to get a few session in this year but locations seem to be very secretly guarded. It's not that I want to move in on anyone else's turf, I want to work out where to try myself. I suppose what I really want to know is do they show all along the east coast or just in certain locations? I know that they travel in packs seeking out crabs and stuff like that but can they be caught Of any beaches.

Is there any water depth they prefer and has anyone ever heard of them being caught north on Dublin? I've seen the YouTube clip of them stranding in Rush so as far as I can see theta as far north as they go. Does anyone have any reports of them being caught there? Or even further north?

Thanks guys!!

Rosslare strand is a haven for packs of smoothound mostly small maybe the odd one up to five pound and from mid June onwards should through them up most tides once it stays calm ... As far as I know they were tope not hounds that were stranded in rush and I have heard of them and have landed them as far as donebate and portrane in nth dublin but have never even landed onewhen I fished for many years around the mouth of the Boyne and Louth ...I think in season most of the beaches from south wicklow to south wexford can produce them

Hi Chris, go to the shore reports section - poolbeg?

Regards north of Dublin - cant help, but south of poolbeg - killoughter, ennereilly, clones, Kilgorman, ballymoney & courtown will all throw up decent smoothies regularly from the middle of next month. Rising tides into darkness are generally very good times. You'll catch them on all organic baits but crab wil outfish everything.

Drop me a pm when your planning on coming down & I'll give u the latest!

I've fished the South Wicklow beaches 3 times in the last 10 days and have had pup smoothies each time. As Alby says,,,rising tides into darkness,,,,and they'll go for crab at distance and they're also partial to rag in close. PS,,,,,i've had experience of my fresh peeler being outfished by frozen  Good luck
