North Dublin/Meath/Louth Bass

#1 Post by Chris T »

Tried Gormanston Beach this evening, conditions couldn't have been better... Not a touch! I haven't had a Bass in about three years, has anyone else noticed a decline in the number of Bass around this part of the coast??

I was only chattin to henry in henrys tackle the other day about this both agreeing that the bass fishing on the east coast especially Dublin has been extremely poor the last two seasons hopefully next year brings a change

There are definitely less fish about, if any. I have to admit I'm not getting out as much as I used to but I have had about 4 blanks is a row this year alone and it used to be the case that Blanks were a rarety!

3 seasons now and not one bass, fishing from Howth to baltray, I've hit every mark heavily, I'd be embarrassed to say how many hours I've put in! Fly and lure only. I can get bass on bait but have to travel to Wicklow/Wexford. Gormanstown..... Great spot, great marks but just can't bring myself to waste anymore time there, so many blanks. (PB flounder on rag from there though 43cm!)
I'm still not giving up though, there are bass here, just not as many as further south IMO . When I get one it'll be all the sweeter! good tides next weekend, fingers crossed.there's bass out there men, we just need to figure them out, keep on fishing!!

Spent the day today on Laytown and not a tap. Crab, Lug, Rag, Sand Eel and the bait was coming back un touched. Contditions looked perfect. I met a guy while I was down there who produced two photos off bass he said had been caught there over the summer both over 10lbs.

But as a Dublin Angler who usually goes south to wicklow/wexford I think I will keep heading that way instead of heading to the northern beaches.

Regards

There's def bass at laytown when conditions are right. Think the window is very tight though, 2-3 hrs before HT from what I've been told. Bitch of a beach to fish though! Never had anything but flounder from there, many many blanks too

This year has been brutal so far, iv only had a handfull of bass and the flounder fishing has been poor also alltho i havent fished as much.
Last year was great with big numbers of fish around in august and September, catching 8 or 10 fish somedays on lures alltho most were small around 2-4 lb.

Yea I thought the conditions looked well yesterday notherly following a good easterly. But hey was better being out than at home and surge plenty of jogging up the beach with the speed of the tide there.

Pity it doent fish better as its a really nice part of the coast.

There have been some Bass taken lately from Laytown and the sand bar at the mouth of Rogerstown estuary, but most fish were schoolies and all taken on ragwom.

Fished it once with bait for about 2/3 hour only had one big bite witch tuck me straight in to a snag :(
On the same day I counted about 15-20 seals that can't be good either .

There are bass up that whole strech but some serious hours are needed from what I can gather.
Best of luck with it lads

It has been really poor around here this year for bass, not one bass from the mouth of the boyne for me this year. From talking to other bass idiots that I have met it has been the same for all of them.

I am seriously thinking of forgetting that bass even exist, as I have had 6 blanks from last 6 trips.
The wife is starting to look at me funny everytime I go out looking for bass at this stage

Going up there on Sat if anyone wants to join me? 15.00 ish to 20.00ish. We can all blank together and share the pain!!!
I'll even bring a picture of a bass in case anyone fishing Louth has forgotten what they look like!
It'll be great of craic!

I'm sorry to hear that everyone is experiencing the same. It does give me some solace though in that is not just me...

Keep plugging away lads! If they were there and have left they could just as easy come back... I hope!

from what ive been hearing there is the odd bass being caught(not by me unfortunately) but seems like it there are more fish being caught north of the boyne, baltray seems to produce a few but like laytown/gormonstown conditions have to be perfect..
