What is about near Tralee , please ?

#1 Post by blowin »

Planning to visit my son down there within the next 10 days and would very much like to know what is about , best bait and tactics if you are willing to divulge . I am not asking for specific marks ( but would be more than grateful for a pm !! )
I'd be fishing off beach / pier / rocks , at what I guess you'd call close range --- under 80 yards , on account of being cr#p at casting
Cheers .

flounder and bass will be well within your casting range why not give inch a go ? mac, razor, sandeel and lug will do for bait ,you could try fenit peir nice handy fishing out of the boot stuff 8) ,with a chance of anything from dabs to stingray 8) bob moss has a good book with alot of the marks in it ,landers will normally have a copy

There is a good blog on http://www.ullcatch.com/category/news-reel/blog/ on what's fishing around Tralee and Kerry at the moment.
If you want pm me and I will let you know where to go and maybe organize a session.

with your son i am going to assume that he is a young fella

a couple of places that you might try are:

Fenit pier you will be able to fish the head of the pier during the day but will be asked to leave once it gets dark
brandon pier: small stubby pier awkward to cast off but some fish there. rising tide

the beach opposite brandon pier is very steep too so your 80m cast would be plenty. rising tide.

kilshannig in castlegregory at low tide might be worth a punt. around low tide so before and after it.

baitwise lug would be a nice bait for all these places I'd try sandeel mackeral would work at the 2 piers as well for dogs coal fish and whiting.
