Report:Met Mark and Paul at Jack Whites and drove on down to a beach near Courtown to see if the big smoothies were still around. Unfortunately they were somewhere else, at least from 6pm-12am

, but we had plenty of action all evening with a nice variety of species. We were all fishing 2 rods each , so there was plenty of bait in the water at all times, but we couldnt tempt a biggie

. I started the ball rolling with a pup on the first cast, followed by a doggie, a dab, and a pup tope, all on successive casts, and all on the small rod in close on rag/squid/mack combos.
I did this despite the distraction of a young tanned lady in shorts who didnt seem to have anything else to do except walk up and down the beach in front on us

. Thank the Lord my prayers were answered and she fe*ked off to distract someone else

. With her gone we could concentrate entirely on the fishing

. Paul who had never had a smoothie before , was delighted when he landed a small but perfect smoothie

.
We were delighted for him but then he went and landed a small thornback ray

, showing that he obviously hadnt heard of the "Youre not supposed to outfish your host" rule

. Isnt it funny how excited you get when one of your number gets an unusual catch

, its only afterwards that you realise that you didnt catch it

.
There was a strong run on the tide with some weed at first but it eased off later and it was a glorious evening , perfect for smoothies, if only someone had told them

. The two lads caught Tub Gurnards, and I was a little envious

as I'd been trying to add one to the species list for the year, but peace was restored when i got one of my own

, on mack tipped with squid .
I hooked into 2 lost rigs, one with a dead doggie attached, which meant I was able to replenish 2 of my lost leads

. Going back to my car for a minute I Met Jayball 10 and some lads from the site but he had his hands full when I saw him so I left him to it

. The lads fished the bottom end of the beach and i'm sure will post a report

. We continued our hunt for big smoothies but we only got hits on our back up rods and their small bait combos. Still ,we ended the night with 7 species between us, good going for beach fishing. Packed up when bait ran out at 12pm.
