Wexford beach, 2nd July,2011

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me, Mark( Sparkiemark), Paul

Duration:6pm-12am

Tide:high 9-50pm approx

Weather:SE breezes at first, calm later

Bait:crab,rag, squid,mack

Rigs:flappers and pulleys

Results:smoothies(pups), tope(pups), whiting, doggies, tub gurnard, Dab, Thornback Ray (Pup  )

Image

Report:Met Mark and Paul at Jack Whites and drove on down to a beach near Courtown to see if the big smoothies were still around. Unfortunately they were somewhere else, at least from 6pm-12am  , but we had plenty of action all evening with a nice variety of species. We were all fishing 2 rods each , so there was plenty of bait in the water at all times, but we couldnt tempt a biggie  . I started the ball rolling with a pup on the first cast, followed by a doggie, a dab, and a pup tope, all on successive casts, and all on the small rod in close on rag/squid/mack combos.

Image

Image

I did this despite the distraction of a young tanned lady in shorts who didnt seem to have anything else to do except walk up and down the beach in front on us  . Thank the Lord my prayers were answered and she fe*ked off to distract someone else  . With her gone we could concentrate entirely on the fishing  . Paul who had never had a smoothie before , was delighted when he landed a small but perfect smoothie  .

Image

We were delighted for him but then he went and landed a small thornback ray  , showing that he obviously hadnt heard of the "Youre not supposed to outfish your host" rule   . Isnt it funny how excited you get when one of your number gets an unusual catch :?: , its only afterwards that you realise that you didnt catch it   .

Image

There was a strong run on the tide with some weed at first but it eased off later and it was a glorious evening , perfect for smoothies, if only someone had told them   . The two lads caught Tub Gurnards, and I was a little envious  as I'd been trying to add one to the species list for the year, but peace was restored when i got one of my own 8) , on mack tipped with squid .

Image

Image

I hooked into 2 lost rigs, one with a dead doggie attached, which meant I was able to replenish 2 of my lost leads  . Going back to my car for a minute I Met Jayball 10 and some lads from the site but he had his hands full when I saw him so I left him to it  . The lads fished the bottom end of the beach and i'm sure will post a report  . We continued our hunt for big smoothies but we only got hits on our back up rods and their small bait combos. Still ,we ended the night with 7 species between us, good going for beach fishing. Packed up when bait ran out at 12pm.

Haha, a mans gotta go when a mans gotta go  I should remember in future to put the mouse back in the house quicker when I meet an SAI celeb  We had similar results to yourself but managed 2 big fellas and a small Huss. I got put off putting up reports last year when someone lashed into me for having a street lamp in the background. Must of been some kinda famous street lamp or something

Was a great nites fishing, the weather was beautiful, the company was good, and it was just a really relaxed evening session. Was just a shame that we didn't see any of the big hounds about. We wer all catching fish mid range and in close, I couldn't even buy a fish at range with crab.

Was a brilliant nite with everyone adding a new species for the year. Mine was the gurnard, dave had Tope and gurnard, and Paul getting dab, smoothy, gurnard and a beautiful little ray.

The ray was by far the high light off the nite, it was small but it was sum thing we didn't expect to see. The other high light was the lady walking her dog past us with huge assets up front!

Yeah, huge assets ... and I'm sure if I wasn't fishing with 3 cavemen, she would have stop for a chat
