40 lb braid
A friend of mine picked me up some braid in lidl a while back.thing is, it's 19 kilo breaking strain which I reckon must be about 40 lb breaking strain. Would that be overkill for spinning and plugging for bass? If so, I was thinking of using it on another reel either for feathering for mackerel or beach casting. Would it be suitable for any of these do you think?

Re: 40 lb braid
Ill try it on the beach caster so.thanks for the replies? Braid straight through or will I need shock leader? Im happy enough sticking to 4 oz weights. I've read it's good to use a length of mono at the end with lures. Is this the same for beach casting? Thanks again.also is it true it cuts into your finger when casting?!

Re: 40 lb braid
I use 30lb braid straight through, 4000 size reel, light bass rod and max 3oz lead for light beach work, never had any problems without using a shockleader - others may advise differently.
10lb braid on my lure outfit with a 2500 size reel, would only generally use a leader if fishing snaggy marks - again, others may have different views.
If using braid straight through though its important to have your drag set well as there is zero stretch in briad - mono/flourocarbon can cushion the strike of a fish with the bit of stretch that it has.
I dont think there are any hard and fast rules, whatever suit the individual angler really.

Re: 40 lb braid
40lb braid would be ok for boat fishing
too thick for beach work you will lose yards off your cast and it will catch too much tide and wind to be of much use ,20lb is perfect for beach work ,also if you dont use a shockleader besides the fact you risk injuring others and your finger, if you get snagged you will lose braid instead of a cheap shockleader so yes a shockleader should be used
no need for a 70 lb one, if you use 4 oz wieghts 40 lb is fine 10 lb per oz of lead
