The Shad have arrived.

#1 Post by Ashley Hayden »

The advance guard of shad have arrived at St Mullins, http://bit.ly/fNKz8k. Pictured is Declan Roberts with a fine 1.30kg specimen shad, caught on a beautiful April morning at 09.00am.

I think you might be right Martyn,

There was a lot of bigger fish caught Early last year and I think most, if not all were Hybrids.

1.3kg is a very big fish so might be a hybrid. I wonder if any pure Allis Shad are caught??

What fish do the allis shad breed with to give hybrids? Is it another type of shad?

The only time in the Republic you need a licence is when you're fishing for Salmon and Sea Trout.

Permits now, that's a different question.

Ventured down on Easter Sunday and managed two small shad on blue and silver 7gm tazzies and an eel on maggots. Krusty managed a jack pike on a yellow tazzie. Alot of fish were jumping but most looked quite small. Everyone i spoke to got afew fish. Hopefully can make it down again. will throw up afew pics when i can home.
