I think you might be right Martyn,
There was a lot of bigger fish caught Early last year and I think most, if not all were Hybrids.
1.3kg is a very big fish so might be a hybrid. I wonder if any pure Allis Shad are caught??

What fish do the allis shad breed with to give hybrids? Is it another type of shad?
Fire in the belly, ice in the veins

The only time in the Republic you need a licence is when you're fishing for Salmon and Sea Trout.samo wrote:Do you need a license to fish the river?
Permits now, that's a different question.

Looking forward to getting one or two this year. Heading down in the morning for a quick spin although the tides are not right just have itchy fingers

Re: The Shad have arrived.
Ventured down on Easter Sunday and managed two small shad on blue and silver 7gm tazzies and an eel on maggots. Krusty managed a jack pike on a yellow tazzie. Alot of fish were jumping but most looked quite small. Everyone i spoke to got afew fish. Hopefully can make it down again. will throw up afew pics when i can home.
