Beachcaster Budget Rod versus Beachcaster Expensive Rod?
Hi all,
Is a budget rod just as good as the wallet busters?
What's the big difference aside from the price?
I'm getting back into fishing after a couple of years break and i wan't to know if my money would be well spent on a good rod?
I'm a fixed spool man, so any advise you guys can give me, i'd very much appreciate.
Thanks all, i've found all replies to my other posts very interesting and informative.

there is no need to brake the bank, but dont do too cheep as the rod wont last the eyes will brake and the reel seat will rust

Thanks Paul,
100 quid ain't too bad. Would you recommend picking one up second hand?
Do you buy your gear from the web or do you use any particular tackle shop?
Thanks chief

zziplex century conoflex and daiwa are at the elite end of the market and are considered luxury hi performance beach rods and are definiintly worth the money but only if you have been around the game a long time when you are proficient enough to use them ... As the lads said you will easily pick up a decent rod for about 100 to 150 from the penn or shakespeare

The price of a rod doesnt guarantee anything, go for what anglers have tried and tested and recommend.
You will only get the benefit of an expensive rod if you have the ability to get the best out of it. Greys rods are good quality with a lifetime warrantee and some models aren't so expensive either.

Echo everything Beelo said there. Grauvell do some reasonable FS rods for small enough money but if I were you I would use my budget on picking up something quality secondhand you should grow into. Lots to choose from in the buy and sell section in this forum too.

my first beech rod was an abu garcia enticer 12ft an to this day i still have it in top condition that rod has never failed me but i think the cast rate for them is 4-6oz and it certainly wont break the bank

I agree with your assessment of Greys rods, I have two and I can not fault them. They are not pocket emptier's either.Beelo wrote:The price of a rod doesnt guarantee anything, go for what anglers have tried and tested and recommend.

Re: Beachcaster Budget Rod versus Beachcaster Expensive Rod?
the shakespere salt 13ft fixed spool is a great rod as a starter rod, personally i would get this rod untill you figure that your into the sea fishing.after that i'd get one of the ian golds rods....quality rods, for 200 euro or less, depending on the rod you choose.

Re: Beachcaster Budget Rod versus Beachcaster Expensive Rod?
m8 was in the same boat as ye few years back...bought cheap (don't regret it either, as was'nt sure would make second season) well 4th year in now and go some mid range gear
Penn Powerstix Pro 13ft (+still using me cheap 13ft as second rod)
shimano cardiff 401- multi
Tica Scepter 10000- fixed...(both with braid)
Was shocked in the difference, both in the ease of handling and performance...so don't break the bank, but treat yourself right...

Re: Beachcaster Budget Rod versus Beachcaster Expensive Rod?
I always found the abu or daiwa rods good for mid price. i wouldnt waste my money on the cheaper rods that you find. they are made out of crap. ive had some snap on me when casting or stuck and the eyes fall off not to mention the reel seat coming loose or just packing in. when it comes to fishing tackle you do get what you pay for a reasonably priced rod will last you a hell of a loy longer then one of the cheap rods you find and should improve your fishing as well.
Wish list for 2015: sword tail, black Molly, horny cobbler
