if you fishing the dublin coastline i really advise you to head a little further south than howth.. maybe killiney or greystones... fish an incoming tide with two or 3 hook traces... dave tilly off this site should be able to arrange bait for you if you ring him a couple of days in advance

You been trying the rough ground near the tea rooms?, you should get a few better fish there, you may loose the odd trace but ive had good Codling, pollock, coalies and bass at the tea rooms albeit a few years since I fished there.Dave Tillys the man for the bait alright, just make sure you arrange with him a time to collect it.

to be honest howth isnt as bad as made out to be around this time of year, often fish balscadded rocks as its easy to get to and pretty local to me,only once have i fised there and not caught a fish be it a whiting or a flat fish, but as the lads said if your after half decent fish a bit further down the coast line is way better

Ah no way man. Cafe Ciara is the only place for fish and chips. Plus the battered spice burger.

Ah i suppose "Baron wasteland" is a bit harse  I actually gave it a go recently as i was lazy to travel and had some small Pollock and Whiting on a lure. Balscadden will get ya Whiting, Poor Cod, Dab and Dogfish but all tiddlers bar the doggies.
