Donabate/Portrane

#1 Post by daveyboy »

Wondering whether anyone has ever had any luck in this area. I live round here and have tried fishing here countless times in rogerstown/malahide estuary and off the rocks on the cliff walk. In saying that I'm a complete novice. Only started last summer. But I've blanked every single time. Have tried spinning/plugging and bait fishing but the only bait I've ever used is mackerel and frozen lug. Any advice welcome. By the way is mackerel on it's own a good bait or should I be trying worms/crab?

Hi Mick,

Cheers for the tip. Is that the bay where the car park is and the tower in portrane? Was only fishing there yesterday evening off the rocks. Beautifull spot so fish would be a bonus. I was using frozen lug which prob wasn't the best. Will try digging some rag. Gonna persist with rogerstown for a bass too!Cheers again

Hi. I was going to head this way tomorrow. It is to late now to buy lugs in the bait shop. I was just going to use feathers and mackerel from supervalue. Would I be wasting my time??

All I want to catch is mackerel
