Report: I was lucky to get some rag on Friday afternoon so I promised to take Daniel to The Dee after he'd seen all Al's great reports. The fishing started very slow with no action for the first hour apart from some dibs on the floats. Eventually these small bites resulted in some really really small pollack (smallest was only 3 inches LOL). I then got a better sized pollack about 11/2lbs.

It all went quiet so I decided to move onto the bottom while Daniel persevered with the float.

We both started to get bites close to the wall with no result except lots of stripped hooks! This sharpened our reflexes and soon we were getting a fish every minute or so. A nice mix of Wrasse (mainly Ballan but 2 Cuckoo) and pollack.

This lasted until about 11:00 when everything quietened down again.

I switched to a spinner to try for a mackeral as the rag was running low.

Daniel kept getting the odd wee wrasse and pollack.

The spinner drew a blank.

We packed up at 12:00 having used all the rag.

As we were leaving a guy was setting up to try for conger. I'll have to try that myself next time.

This was by far our best session this year. Thanks to all the guys on here who gave us a few pointers.

We're hoping to head down some evening next week but I'm not sure where the rag will come from!

What set up would you guys suggest for conger from Donaghadee Harbour?

heavy 6/0 hook upwards and a wire trace starting from 50lb upwards and for d.dee 4oz lead clipped at the line end of the trace where it attaches to your main line of no less than 40lb. just keep it simple, no sense in loosing more gear than you have to good luck

Just back from a short session at the Dee.

We arrived about 8:00 on a dropping tide and only managed to stay for about 90 minutes before we had to go.

We managed 4 wrasse and a Poor Cod, all on rag on the bottom.

Also, I set up a conger rod with a mackeral head as bait. I had a take within 10 minutes but it dropped off as I was lifting it up the wall. I'm guessing that it was just holding on to the bait rather than actually being hooked. I didn't see it as I was still standing behind the railings but Daniel reckons it was over 4' in length.

We'll definitely head back down when the tides are a bit better for mornings/evenings.

Nice going there mate, nice to hear you may have had some conger actio. I have not managed to get one but from what Al was telling me the other day, when the take the bait they will hold it for a while in there mouth, with a few rattled on the rod, when they go to to move off, is the time to strike and set the hook.
