What a night!!!!!!
I have been monitoring the weather all week and Sunday offered a break in the rain and wind which, I hoped, would put us on to some good fishing after the recent storms..
We set up at our usual spot but the tide was very low and it was a good 50 yards to the waterline from base. Unbelievable fishing from the off, with at least 1 fish per cast for the first two hours and surprisingly all fish were landed close in at low water
The cod were everywhere with us and others around us landing double shots on a regular basis. All fish were a decent size and would have provided a good score had this been a competition.
Flounder, plaice and coalies also started to show close in. I was using a fixed spool/braid set up and the fight out of the coalies on this set-up was excellent - I can only dream of what a Bass would feel like on this method
There was a 45min lull in the fishing as the tide began to push hard but then picked up for 30 mins before sloping off to nothing as the tide filled.
I reckon we mush have had 30 - 40 scoring fish between us - pity it was only a friendly session....
The highlight of the night had to be my success with the whiting live bait (even though I didn't know that I was using that method....). I had chucked a mackeral fillet out to about 100yds on a single hook clipped rig and noticed small taps on it for about 5 mins but decided to leave it be. After a while the knocks got harder and I decided to reel in - happy days I thought as I felt a fish connect. After a few turns of the reel I realised it was a doggie so I continued to retrieve quickly. I landed the dog and lifted it by the tail to unhook it, he then just slid off the hook to reveal a hooked, but still alive whiting
Probably our best night so far this year - I may not be getting out much this year but sessions like that will keep me satisfied until the next time I get out....
