Constant stream of them being caught In Clogherhead. Huge breaks off the beach, but not at the harbour. Of course, it's as busy as you might expect, but most folk are casting straight out so not too much tangling. Most of the fish are taken off the lines by the seals, but I suppose they have to eat too

cobh yesterday bout 2.30pm stayed for 3 hours managed bout the half a dozen all on the float and a few other bits and pieces.few other anglers there only saw 2 others being taken. (strange when you see the water bubbling with activity and very little mackeral being taken in?)on the way to the train station and met a man who was in kinsale (bridge)in the morning (incoming tide)and reported good mackeral catches.

Fished Balscadden in Howth, for the first time on Sunday. I can gladly say I won't be going back there again. The place was a kip and the annoying thing was it was mostly old mono, rusty hooks and plastic packets off feathers. It was discraceful.
Anyways no macks to be seen there. Fished it for 1.5hrs

Anyone hear of any caught inside East Pier Dun Laoghaire recently? Was thinking I might give it a shot but it's not local so don't want to bother if nothing doing..Cheers

The west pier is your best bet if you are heading to DL but like Ste C said, it's not great at the moment. There are macks but very few and small.daveyboy wrote:Anyone hear of any caught inside East Pier Dun Laoghaire recently? Re: Shore Mackerel Reports '12 here...
Myself and bro caught 5 out in howth harbour. 3 really big ones. Sandeels were in and some macks were coming to the surface.
One another note, I want to give a big shout out to some guy who fishes out there for codlings. I managed to catch a couple young seagulls on one of my casts. I wasn't paying too much attention where my lure was going, but as soon as it hit the water, a gull took it from the top. It got badly tangled and another gull came into help which also got tangled. Both of them flapping 40 yards out making a Hugh ruckus. I reeled them in a bit but there were obviously in distress. Not really knowing what to do, I cut as much line as I could and hoped they could detangle themselves.
The guy in question, abandoned his own fishing and proceeded to catch the two gulls that were making a hugh racket on the surface. After serveral attempts he caught the cut line and carefully brought them in. They did a superb job of cutting the excess line and ensuring the birds suffered no additional distress.
Again, total respect to him and his buddy. Top blokes I'm sure, that have had their fair share of birdies.

Caught 4 nice size ones in Cobh last night. In one stage there was thousands them on the top of the water but my line snapped (i think there was 6 of them on the hooks at the time) and missed them as they moved so quick. Will give it a try tonight again so i can heat up my smoke oven
