the ban in killiney and the like is bad enough - Mayo county council wanted to charge for holding comps - now apparently a notice has to be sign posted on the beaches on the day of the comp - otherwise the club in question will be fined- for not informing the public of the dangers associated with beach casting

Just had a look, basically it's replies from Surfers who say that they dont care and they will surf anyway, Had the exact same problem on Inch Beach in may. What started of as a good session catching plenty of bass had to stop because of surfers..it didn't matter where we moved more would just come up

A bit more feedback from anglers on that forum might atleast make them more aware of our feelings on the subject................if it means one more surfer is a bit more courteous then its worthwhile

Do they have surfing competitions? If they do then maybe a bunch of anglers should set up on their next venue and start casting leads out at them.

Re: A massive thank you to the Surfers on Rossnowlagh yesterday.
Unfortunately for us, we seem to be bottom of the pecking order when it comes to the sea.
I can totally understand the like of Harbours/Marinas, where powered craft should have right of way, however what gets my goat is when 1 absolute numpty on a Jetski decides he's going out showboat around the area you're fishing, they have a whole big ocean for that, and because they think you're an audience they'll stay in front of you all the more.
Luckily we have no surfing problems in my area, cos there's no surf, however, I can understand the feelings of the anglers involved, maybe a week of pure preparation, bait collection, rig tying, and planning going into a session only for it to be destroyed by people with no regard for others.
A greater understanding has to be created between all Sea users, and if that means invading a forum or two with a couple of sporting ambassadors, so be it.
There's too many Sea anglers on this site, and around the coast of Ireland to be walked over like this...
I'm sorry the competition and the article went to sh1t mate, I would have loved to read it.

hey lads i used to surf and the amount of times i got given out to for not obeying the holy rules of surfing. mainly the queuing crap where you would queue for a wave and wait for your turn. since i can't swim i would paddle out and ride a wave in all waves are free . the amount of times keanu reeves type twats shouted abuse at me and on a couple of occasions made shapes i find if ya wait till the Idiot has their wet suit half off is normal the optimal time to retaleait a couple of quick slaps and leg it (in a playful way of course ) now i am not suggesting retaliateing by any means but a lot of surfers are thick ignorant twats is there any way of setting bouys up arround the area tied together so no Idiot (surfer) can come in front just a idea kind like a forcefield to keep stupidity away. the bouys could some stuff that was pretty funny but could be misconstrued, misinterperted, and propagandised by any passing surfer that read it and had a grudge against anglers. Let's not give them any ammo to have a cheap pop at us.

Thats been my experience too - rubber-clad jocks. Besides taking over the water when they're around, access tracks are blocked by obstructively abandoned vehicles, and the place is covered in rubbish. They really do see themselves as The Chosen Ones, and anyone with a rod as a neanderthal. Guerilla tactics might be wrong, Tanglerat, but sometimes they're very attractive...taz wrote:

Re: A massive thank you to the Surfers on Rossnowlagh yesterday.
Got caught on the hop the other day, was listening to a radio station on Teusday when they started talking to surfers on all things surfing and the fabulous prowler wave off mullaghmore, sent a text through saying yes it is great to see people using the coast line but have respect to other users, 2 minutes later phone call came through 'Will you go on air
' did not even get to think about it and was on air, being honest i was really caught on the hop but i just tried to get my point across that anglers respect other beach users i.e if we pull up to an area that has surfers or swimmers using it we will move as not to put other people at risk, and how i have been pushed off beaches by members of the surfing community. Never Never Never texting a radion station again
I accept that the discussion was on the magnificent prowler wave but if members of the surfing community were listening and might think twice in the future before taking over a beach the embarrassment is worth it,,,,,,,

there is a video somewhere showing that, quite impressive indeed, and its the jet-ski's that give the location away other vids on youtube show exact same people on same jet-ski's towing surfers out to the waves (coincidence.. naa)Pat wrote:Have a look at this (I know its off topic....but its mighty impressive): http://magicseaweed.com/Prowlers-Breaks ... tent/2933/Conger wrote:...and the fabulous prowler wave off mullaghmore,....

Heh. I know a couple of spots offshore that produce swells/waves/breakers like that under the right conditions. I bet most boat anglers do too. Far enough offshore that surfers would be very unlikely to know about them.Pat wrote:Have a look at this (I know its off topic....but its mighty impressive): http://magicseaweed.com/Prowlers-Breaks ... tent/2933/Conger wrote:...and the fabulous prowler wave off mullaghmore,....
I could tell them now I know they're interested in that sort of mark. But hearing about the interference with anglers that they're up to on the beaches, and reading some of the comments made on boards.ie by some of them and the selfish arrogance displayed - I don't think I will.....

Conger: didnt hear that radio item but you did good to get on there and put our points across. More of us should get publicly vocal on angling issues - better than just seething among ourselves on the site.

Re: A massive thank you to the Surfers on Rossnowlagh yesterday.
just spent 15mins reading all the replies on that forum and i gotta say i'm a bit shocked at some of the attitudes of those lads
i would never consider setting up for a day's fishing if there was surfers already in the water at my intended mark,, but the general gist of some of those guys was an attitude of " i'll surf where i want and if i get injured it's your fault"
i mean, come on,,,, seriously? if you choose to put youself in harms way by turning up on a beach and intentionally surfing through an anglers gear (who was already there before you) how can they say it's our fault

The attitude of some of the surfers is quite short-sighted. If we can't sort out how to share the beach between ourselves then both activities (and others ) will be regulated by local councils. :/

Yeah I was getting very annoyed just reading the replies from some of them, It's not that difficult to understand, they just seem to be on the defense about anything that will question their precious sport! I have nothing against surfing at all..it looks like good craic but just move to the left or right of where the angler is and not in front of them...problem solved

I also know a couple of surfers and they dont hold anglers in any regard what so ever... pricks...
It has happened to me a couple of times up in Portstewart and Portrush.. I waded out and said to the fella about the amount of lines in the area.. he was decent enough fella and moved on.. It was something like 1 degrees and they were out in that.. mad-men
Suppose you will get them all.. there are the sound enough ones that will move and then there the die-hards that love to p*ss people of for the craic
Sorry to hear it was a nightmare pete... Might be time to start investing in a breeding program for weever fish.. that would fairly clear the beach..
