I didn't fish february last year, but I think there was some nice cod about ~+ whiting etc. The weather would need to settle down a bit!

Skipper has to carry enough life jackets for the passengers he is licenced carry.
I bring my own, as i have one and it may be less bulky than what may be supplied

To be honest, every sea angler, boat or shore, should have one.
We really should wear them, at the very least when fishing off rocks /cliffs, as events of last summer have shown.

r yee bringin ur own boat rods? r what kinda rods r u bringin if any? ive got a 50lb class penn mariner...a bit 2 heavy for most boat work...id be happier with something lighter like my abu 10ft beachcaster for a good fight? any ideas?

Mr Green, you can pick up decent enough boat rods around the 50 euro mark. Forget about the 50lb class rod, there is no real place for that where we will be going this year TBH unless you like fishing with a broom handle. Have a look around at something like a 12-20lb class for a bit of sport or for all round versatility a 20-30lb class rod. The Leeda Northstar 20-30lb class is a nice enough rod and retails around the 50 euro mark. 10 feet whilst not overly excessive would be more at home for uptiding and the like. As its not a proper boat rod it may lack the guts to handle weights of 8-12 oz which would be the norm to be fair.

Hi all
I am new to the boat fishing game. But was the first time with somebody who had a 12-20 lbs class rod.He hooked more fish (obviously), he could handle the bigger fish 8lbs pollock easier than us no forgiveness with the brush handle. I now have a couple of 12lbs rods for normal stuff and a 35lbs for shark and tope etc.
I t's like most pike anglers use1.5 test curve rods, cat fish anglers going to Spain use 2.45 rods for 100lbs fish.
again I am a novice so the figures might be wrong, but the idea is right

Far more sport too Ferg, in fairness, you can land the majority of pollack you catch on the boat on a spinning rod set up so there is no reason whatsoever why you would need a brush handle.
