Razorfish as Bait(On west coast)

#1 Post by seank »

Hi lads,

Picked a few razors today and going out again tomorrow. Never used them as Bait.

Anybody use them around the Mayo/Galway area and found them worthwhile?
Target for 2017: Tope, Bass, Specimen shore pollack, Specimen Sea trout, Turbot over 30cm, common skate

Yes Sean

Excellent bait especially as a combo - used them for rays in killary (back when there was rays in killary) and found them the ultimate doggies bait (which is probably why I stopped using them!). I can see your mind racing ahead to your nert comp! :D :D :D

I had good success with razor for flats. Lugworm tipped with razor. However that wasnt today or yesterday. Am going back at least 7 years ago.

Great bait for bass on the cork coast. Have also caught plenty of codling, flounder dogfish. You can refreeze the razor & use it again I think it's a great bait & easy to get.

Wouldn't go to Cork or kerry without it ! It works best in a surf or after rough weather !
A whole one on a panelled pully rig is great for big bass [WINKING FACE]

Probably best used after storms and possibly on beaches which have razor beds beyond low water, holds well in the freezer so would be ready to go at short notice ie just after a good blow

seank is talking about connacht mainly - i wouldnt think youd have much hope of catching a cod on a razor from the shore

There used to be some small codling taken regularly at LW on Ballycastle beach... remember trying once without success... but others have spoken of it, so that's an option. Never seem to get them on any other beaches even though there are decent cod all around Mayo and Connacht... around now, white feathers take them.
