I was just about to post a similar link - well done!

Here's a handy quick link to it:

This is a great chance to ban super trawlers from Irish waters. Can you please help? http://bit.ly/1X4XOSv

Yours hopefully,
John D.

Very little scad going yet. They haven't shoaled up yet and the little bits that are going are very mixed with joey mackerel which is why the Irish boats are not fishing them or landing any but the Dutch factory ships can chuck those out :(

They are getting no to very little scad. When you see them searching like that. They are away up west of the hebrides now. Too much joey scad and joey mackerel off here. No point boarding them though as this would be all over the side and they have mincers for the grader discards so the gulls and other boats don't see masses of whole fish dumped

Supertrawlers searching for scad wouldn't bother me as much as Irish boats bottom fishing for whitefish up in Donegal Bay on the rays and common skate grounds up and down over and back and right in close on the beaches

On your sligo beaches now, nobody cares. The turtle and whale brigade are silent

The supertrawler movement lost alot of credibility when the greenpeace types started on about killing turtles and whales and dolphins on the west coast. The real facts are the corruption of the quota systems and that individual boat margiris came with no mackerel quota and was just fishing scad but those involved in fishing know the scad are mixed with mackerel which is why the Irish boats are not fishing so the word got out that the navy were going to board them and as if by magic the swapped other quota and gained 644 tonnes of mackerel quota which they already had on board. They have over 4 thousand tonne of scad aboard and another thousand to get. Disgrace what's going on but the campaign got taken over by whale and turtle non facts.
Yes on the inshore trawling side of things down south they cannot come inside 3 miles of the shore but up here they are in on the beaches and nursery beds. Very frustrating
