Hi lads, I am having a few issues with my Penn mag 2 525 & 515 multiplier reels looking for tuning tips or set up tips, Both reels "have had the blue grease removed bearings oiled with yellow rocket oil.i use a good mono line filled to a few mm of the lip with 0.35 line.i set the float that I just have some side to side play but can't see it.when fishing can have a few session with out any crack offs or birds nests.next session first or second cast a birds nest or crack off.my casting style is a overhead tump just can't workout why it goes wrong from time to time.it makes no difference if the mags or on full quarter off or half off.i also have a abu mag & a 7th without any problems.i love the penn mag 2 reels but the nests &crack off from time to time is killing me.starting to loose conference in them & when I'm out fishing waiting for the things to go wrong. Was out beach fishing last night using my penn mag 2 515 on a bass rod first cast perfect second cast a crack off at the reel.please any tips will be very much appreacheted.thanks in advance.
Regards
            Des

Re: Penn mag 2 525 / 515
I recently put the Abu oil into my 525s and had terrible trouble with them until I put in red rocket fuel and they cast perfectly again. The yellow rocket fuel is too light for them

Re: Penn mag 2 525 / 515
maybe try an off the ground cast, as it has more of a through action on the rod, set ur mags full, and keep casting away until u feel more confident to start backing em off, and jus back em off a click or 2 at a time...... an overhead thump could be snappy at times..... if you wanna go for a cast sometime on the beach and just wang a few out im based in east cork, myself and terry aka (tripod terror) would meet up for a chuck no hassle

Re: Penn mag 2 525 / 515
If its only happening the odd time then its most likely your casting style the over head tump is abit jerky and as was already said yellow is to light for a 525 mag unless your pendulum casting.

Re: Penn mag 2 525 / 515
agree with what's said above, thicker oil, smoother cast, just a thought check your line lay as a bit of loose line can catch the shockleader knot, also check the line for any nicks

Re: Penn mag 2 525 / 515
Hi mc I'm going to try the red rocket reel oil. Line & line lay ok. I also fish with a Abu mag 6500 that's only a few years old & a 7Ht. I never have any crack off or bird nests with these reels only on the penn mags.

Re: Penn mag 2 525 / 515
Not sure if relevant or not in this case, but speaking from experience of owning and using to an inch of falling apart the older mag 525s used have a habit of magnets popping out of position and out of no where a birdsnest would appear.Solved the issue by gluing the mags .Brilliant reels just not a major fan of the newer ones which is a bit silly really.
