At the risk of sounding like a broken record.... Alderney Angling does not charge you VAT at the time they process the payment. However this does not mean that shipments coming from them, if caught on entry to Ireland, won't be liable to VAT (and possibly other duties, although I'm not 100% sure on that). Any gear bought from Japan (if caught) will definitely be liable to duties and vat.

Alderney have even changed their own website to state that:
"For our European/Worldwide customers: To all other destinations (edit - i.e. non uk) orders will be dispatched with no VAT prepaid and at the prices displayed on the website. Most countries have a lower limit whereby VAT is exempt. This amount varies but across Europe it tends to be the equivalent of around £20.00 to £22.00. All orders under these values will arrive VAT free to you. Be aware of what your VAT rules are, for example in Australia you are allowed approximately £650.00 per month of imports exempt of VAT."

It's very possible that even after being hit with duties/VAT you may still get a better deal - thats something that gets confirmed a lot on UK sites from lads ordering from Japan. And if you have managed to slip the net on previous occasions, that's great, you got bargains!

But I would suggest that people bear in mind (before they drop hundreds of euros on these sites) that if they get hit, the bargain they thought they were getting may not turn out to be such a bargain after all.

I'm not saying you can't get better deals, I'm just stating that the price you pay at the checkout is not always the price you end up paying from your pocket.
