Penn Sql12 (mag 525) Line recomendation

#1 Post by Bassy Tom »

Hi all,

was wondering what your opinions were for line recomendations for surf fishing with the penn squall 12 (basically mag 525)? I have 24lb mono on at the moment but it is not performing great in the cast. Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers.

For general surf fishing .35 is good. If your not too used to the multis maybe try .40 for a few weeks first and then when it needs to be changed go onto the .35. Under fill the spool a little too and that will help with casting.
Suffix tritanium is very good and around €9 a spool. Some lads had issues with the coloured version but the clear is top notch.

I recently got a spool of tritanium 19lb in yellow and it broke in my hands tying knots ! had no issues previously, in fact I really liked the line. Possibly a bad batch as I had no problems with the previous spools ?

Ive heard a few people say that about the coloured tritanium. I had some yellow myself in .30 and it broke way too easy. Never heard of it happening in the clear tho.

strange one alright ! I had both my beach reels spooled with the yellow 19lb. I have 14lb clear on my bass reel and as you said, I've had no bother with it.

I use daiwa tournament mono in 15lbs or 18lbs on my penn 525

Decent enough line with good abrasion resistance

Load it with 15lb line use a good brand name. I use shimano aero 15lb on my pen 525 mag 2 & casts like a dream. Don't forget shock leader.

I use Sakuma night Crystal and I really like it. I find it strong, knots well and is hi vizz which is handy for night fishing. I use the .28, .31 and .35 diameters and find the .35 the best for fishing.

Get .38 diameter for the Penn and slightly under fill spool, Daiwa Sensor is bullet proof and hard to look past for general fishing.
