diy leadheads according to john1 : )

#1 Post by lucky13 »

heres my mould and my attempt, got all me stuff ready and no gas, feck it i was mad for road so i did it old skool 8) i will give them a sand and a bit of shaping yet and try and define them a bit.there are some flaws for sure, the mould "mark one" needs some tweaking too,as the more i poured, the neck around the hook eye gave way, causing the eye to fill with lead...happy angler i am tho for a first attempt at em... :D as you can see my mould deteriorated after 5 pours...the pic below shows the best to worst...
kudos again to john1 for pushing thoughts. :D
if anybody reading this spins leadheads, give it a go

Maybe if you put a small pin or nail through the eye of the hook to hold it you'd have it kept open after you pour the lead?
A bad days fishing is still better then a good day at the office.

Hi John, just wondering dose the lead on the hook not slip down the shank of the hook when caught in weed when you pull through or have you a way to keep it caught on the hook? I've tryed putting lead shots on kaz b940 but its not holding on the hook. :x .

i dont kow how john1 does it but on the aberdeens i cut small barbs into the hook shank, just below the eye, being careful not to go too deep and damage the hooks strength, before i pour the lead..they seem to hold well...havent had the chance to really test them properly yet tho,but johns seem to work grandest,he's caught on his
