Question about rods

No doubt a stupid question to those in the know but I'm just learning my way so ill ask anyway.
I'm looking to buy a new rod or two, got that nice catalogue in this months Sea Angler mag, just wondering what's the difference between a Surf Rod and a Beach Rod as they are called in this catalogue? They all seem to come in various lengths etc. Also anyone here spot any really good deals in there that they would recommend? I'm kind of looking for two rods for general shore angling and I'd like to try beach fishing too. I'd be interested in the combo deals with the fixed spool reels and same as everyone else I'd like to be able to cast as far as possible. I have a barely used Abu Ambassador 6500cs multiplier at home too so should I get a multiplier rod to make use of this?

A surf rod and beach rod are the same thing ideally for beach fishing over here you said you want two rodsbso id go for rods in the 13ft range one with a light forgiving action and sensitive tip and another with a stiffer action for rough ground ... id highly reccomend not just choosing rods from catologues that you know nothing about instead askin people on this forum or in relable tackle shops that wil steer you right on what would suit you and your budget best some top name tackle can be bought on this forum second hand for very cheap if you keep your eye out ... ps mulitipliers should be matchet with rods rung for multiplers and the same with fixed spools

Thanks for the reply. The nearest tackle shop to me is around 45mins away and I work most Saturdays so never get a chance to go to them really. I'm only a newbie to the forum so can't access the for sale section yet. Online is just the easiest option for me.
Just as you mentioned the rough ground rod, I was actually wondering what they meant when they said that a certain rod was suitable for rough ground. So am I right in thinking that a rough ground rod is simply just a rod with a stronger tip so you don't break it if your trying to free a snag? So if you were fishing two rods you'd ideally have two rough ground and two for smooth ground? Or is there a do all kind of rod that would suit both?

I'm in the same position myself. I want to buy a beach rod second hand. Have good budget. But forum rules dictate that I must be a member for six months before I can access forum dealing with second hand gear. This means my budget will go on a ' middle of the road road that I will probably be looking to get rid of in a few months. I would much prefer to access a high performance one second hand. I don't think forum will allow me or you to 'request whats available second hand, so will have to just keep trawling tru classifieds and hoping something suitable pops up.

Just my own opinion here for what it's worth. I used to do a lot of beach fishing as a kid & teenager, and I used a 11'6" Daiwa Bass rod for my beach fishing. Then from about the age of 14 almost exclusively boat fished for the next almost 20 years. I've just started beach fishing again in the last 18 months, so I bought a new 12'6" Bass rob & a 14' beach rod. The 14' beach rod I find really heavy and clumsy to use. I don't have a very sophisticated style of casting, and so I don't really get any extra distance with it over the bass rods. I use it only for fishing over rough ground where I might have to pull out of snags, or haul in Ray, huss etc etc. When I hit the beach I bring my 20+ year old bass rod & my new bass rod, and really find them a pleasure to use compared with the beach rob, easier to cast & hold, better bight detection, and a bit more sport generally. I have landed Congers, Ray, smoothies & bass on the old bass rod, so you're never likely to be outgunned by a fish on one of these rods. That's my 2 cents.

Plenty of rods for sale on done deal and adverts. Do a bit of research on what your want and if possible try to cast a rod before buying anything. Just because its a rod has an expensive label doesnt make it a good buy if the rod doesnt suit you, your casting style or type of fishing.
