thanks Bait ball, might try West Pier, DL this coming weekend, depending on weather.
Last year was mixed bag- small pickings   , so will monitor and also go to South Bull wall
which was excellent in 2011 for macks :P

you wanna be fishing a sliding float rig so you can adjust the depth, they could be anywhere from 3 feet down, just depends what depth of water you are in, sometimes they go deep.

rumour has it that there were "huge shoals of Mackerel" sighted from a *cough* 'secret location'
near Carrigaholt last week - I say no more.... :P

4 hours either side of high tide this morning at Clogherhead, 6 people fishing but still not a mackerel in sight. Plenty of small Pollock and seals about though.

Clifden Saturday June 1st

#36 Post by Der »

Set out on Saturday for a few macks, fishing 2 hours before high tide and 1 hour of ebb.
Results: 2 good Pollock and 4 smaller returned for another day. No Mackerel.
Hoping for better results in Co Clare in a week or so. But happy not to blanks on the first shore trip 2013.

Sorry about a Pollock mug shot in a Mackerel report, I could not resist

went deep sea wrecking out of downings in donegal yesterday and not a single mackerel to be found!!
the skipper radio'd through to another skipper with a charter out round towards tory island and only 4 mackerel landed the entire day!! god this is bad stuff!!
the skipper told us that they were almost impossible to find in the swilly as well from the tope festivle at the weekend too.
where have they all gone :(
