I have caught a few odd things over the years a couple that come to mind, a very long time ago when i was about 8 i was casting a spinner for macks inside Dunlaoghaire harbour everyone shoulder to shoulder chasing the shoals i was doing an overhead cast when i heard a yelp i had caught a Red Setter right on top of his head with 2 hooks of the treble getting draged by the dog screaming and running all over the place, my Da had to cut the hook from the spinner with pliers so off the dog went to a vet with his owner
The other one was only last year fishing a couple of miles off greystones started to reel in a bit of weight when up comes a pink frisbee ring still have it somewhere, whatever chance i have of hooking another dog i dont think i will ever catch a frisbee again

There is a caravan park close by but in fairness this looked like it could have been used by the ancient Romans as a catapult
I didn't do the Prince Charming and see who it fitted !!!!!

Fly fishing for sea trout one night on a cast i could barely make the fly line out on front of me and thought it could be going upwards. It was. A bat had taken the fly. Easy enough to release it but was struck at how tiny it was when it didn't have its wingspan. It took a kings mill.

I saw a video somewhere a few years back of lads flyfishing or flybating as it should be called:o. Into a cave they went with a night vision video camera and started casting. Madness but looked like good craic.:grin:

My cousin hooked a bailiff in the collar of his shirt with a large salmon fly on a backast and on his forward stroke I heard a splash . I looked over and seen the poor chap struggling to get to his feet in the rapids. He got such a fright when the fly strook that he lost balance and came off the raised walkway into the river which was in full flood. At the time I was in stitches whilst I helped him up and cut the leader leaving him the fly for good luck . :D

this year on the river Main, Co.Antrim, trying for a dollaghan (not sea fishing..)
first time i caught one.. PB :P thankfully he 'took' as the fly was stationary so no harm done. he wasnt even hooked, the hook was just holding up under his arm/wing-pit and not embedded. just lifted him off and he flew away ok :) but not after he had left a little bat t*rd on my leg!...
took a teal blue and silver..

This summer i just spotted the water on a new mark in w. waterford...it looked class...just a bit clear...

i cast out my favourite feed shallow and started a slow retrieve whilst taking in the new mark..happy out,
the next thing i saw was a MASSIVE "fish" following my lure (100LB + i thought)...weirdly the shape made me think massive flat fish..Halibut ( I know, I know)
I was pissing myself waiting for the hit...
then i saw the head.
a bloody seal was swooping upwards towards the lure (his head was hidden at the start and only saw the fins at the side which looked oddly like a massive flatfish)..Thank god i managed to wip the lure just before he hit it..

sorry i know i didn't reel it in as the title said but ...thank f@ck i didnt,,,

i also think an otter hit a soft plastic last winter

So anyway i thought this would be a nice thread to get going. Basically whats the weirdest thing you have ever reeled in it can any thing from a weird fish to a tree what ever.

Ill start off so i was down fishing in monkstown last year when i went to reel in there was a huge weight on my rod i thought it was weed but as it surfaced infront of me i looked down and there it was a nice enough rod and reel. Took it home reel was no good but the rod was grand i actually use it the odd time for light estuary fishing as its a light rod, So what weird things have ye caught??
