Bass Thief Sentenced
A man who stole a bass from an aquarium and pretended he had caught it has been sentenced to 100 hours community service.
Matthew Andrew Clark, 29, stole the 13lb (5.9kg) bass from the aquarium in St Peter Port and used it to win the £800 first prize in a bass fishing competition.

Re: Bass Thief Sentenced
The scumbag got off lightly. If he had stolen a dog from a peting zoo and killed it hed probably have gotten time.
Add in the fraud and burglary and he should be banged up for a few months.

Re: Bass Thief Sentenced
I strongly believe that this verdict is perfectly justified. In opposition to the modus operandi here, he was named and shamed, therefore the punishment is quite devastating for him.
As he is living in such a small island he surely wont be trusted a position in the fishing tourism or angling sector in the foreseeable future or until he has completely regained his credibility.
An unanimous prison sentence together with other really criminal inmates only would have given him the possibility to hide away in a cushy cell, being fed and pampered until he is released, now equipped with better skills and more hatred towards our civilisation and the common rules and laws implied there in order to make it function.
Now as it stands, he will have to face up to his deeds in public, being at the mercy and will to forgiveness of his own people. This is much better because he will surely get a chance when he deserves it. Fair play to the wisdom and foresight of the judge. I wish there would be more judges like him here in Ireland!

Interesting viewpoint there Austrian and I wouldn't totally disagree; on the other hand, "Off with their heads" has a very low repeat offending rate! The Austrian wrote:I strongly believe that this verdict is perfectly justified.
