How do i recognize a fishery officer ?
Well, anyone can come to you and represent to be some sort of officer in these days ...
How should they look like, uniforms, badges ... ?
Don't get me wrong, i always follow the law and common sense in fishing, but not so excited to talk any fake wannabees ....
Cheers

Re: How do i recognize a fishery officer ?
With the last year of so IFI staff wear a uniform. I am not sure of their "uniform policy".
Most if not all officers would be wearing official IFI branded jackets etc.
If in doubt ask to see ID.

How do i know real people are behind their ID or fake ID ?
Why im asking this ? There were cases about fake gards as well in the country, so i would like to be sure im not dealing any fake fishery officers if any shows up.

Re: How do i recognize a fishery officer ?
I don't know what their ID looks like.
I was under no doubt that I had met a fisheries officer when I met them.
So if you are wondering can anybody confiscate your gear?......they will call the police if they need backup! The imposter will not do this

Re: How do i recognize a fishery officer ?
The only ifi officers I met had the Ifi branding on their car as well as id cards. Cant see the point in impersonating an officer to be honest . The cases regarding the gardai impersonators were targetting the elderly to gain access to properties and similar cases with charities etc but I cant see anyone bothering for the sake of a chat . In anycase I wouldnt give it too much thought unless your doing something you shouldnt ..

Re: How do i recognize a fishery officer ?
To be honest I don't think you will have a problem with people impersonating fishery officers, if you do you will be the first to experience it. And if you are doing nothing wrong you will be fine anyway, you wont be handing your gear over to somebody if you stay on the right side of the law, and if they ask for your gear when you havent done anything then you know they are not real fishery officers, but to be honest I wouldnt get to excited by the dilema you are currently in
The finest gift you can give a fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

I've fished for over 30 years all over the country on every major beach and estuary you can think of and I've genuinely never seen a fisheries inspector in my life. If I met a fake one I'd try and get him a job because we're clearly short a few.

Re: How do i recognize a fishery officer ?
A working fishery officer with IFI will be wearing official workwear which consists of a Green coat/Green bomber jacket, light green shirt, brown pants and boots and may also wear a green baseball type cap. These will have logo's identifying inland fisheries ireland on the cap, fleece or jacket, if asked to identify themselves they will by producing their warrants which consist of a leather wallet, upon opening there is a IFI badge inside and a photograph of the officer and a number of warrants which allow him/her to perform their duties. There will also be Logo's on their vehicles also, officers will also work occasionally in civilian clothing when they need to be in cognito. It must also be noted that sea fisheries officers do not have the same workwear but do carry the same warrants to enforce the Bass laws.
