Breathable V Neoprene - Layering

I actually hope i'm opening a can of worms on this subject. cause the more opinions the better.

Its definitely getting colder and I'm trying to decide between neoprene or breathable waders. I've boought them both at times over the years and have gone through so many. I'll be getting a good pair of quality ones but i want an all year rounder, and thats my question. What is the best all rounder to keep you warm during the winter and cool during the summer.

Neoprene can be quite warm alright but if you do any excercise at all it can quickly become a sweat box. Once you stop moving you become absolutely freezing. Breathable on the other hand can be perfect for summer fishing but when its cold it cuts stright through you.

My own feeling on it is leaning towards breatables, in conjuntion with layering correctly. Summer time its easy but whats the best set up for them for the winter? I've done a bit of digging around and i've came up with the following list. Like i said i'm interested in opinions on this as besides catching fish, i think keeping warm is the most important thing and can otherwise ruin a session.

Base Layer:
Boxers, Cotton t-shirt
Long John's something to wick moisture. pants and top or one piece?
Good Woolen socks

Mid Layer:
Midlayer Microfleece. again wicks moisture but keeps heat in. pants and top or one piece
Good quality Breathable Waders Stockingfoot plus wading boots and studs. Not sure whats the best that will last??
Another Fleece maybe??

Outer Layer
Termal Jacket, Windproof and water proof. Again whats everyones favourites
Wooly hat, windproof, gloves, latex gloves,

A lot of the marks i want to fish envolve wading to get to them. Point taken though but it must be possible to insulate heat even under breathable waders without trapping moisture. If i didn't need to wade at all the bib and brace woud be perfect. But i want to wade

Get your self a divers dry suit liner ,great for winter fishing under the waders and not too bulky,also cut a piece of fluffy carpet to put as insoles in the boots to keep your tootsies warm,I recon the dry suit liner could be worn with the breathable waders as some dive suits have a breathable back panel in them

I found a cheap one for ye ,search denbigharmysurplus drysuit liner ,it's British army surplus it's a manky looking green yoke but its only 40 sterling

Pair of daiwa neoprenes and a wading jacket . the wading jacket is tight at the bottem so traps air keeping you toast ,ive melted marsbars in the depths of winter As for summer well staying in the water will keep you cool and closer to the fish

You should freeze your mars bars next time so they don't melt as fast!

neoprean for winter wading and a floatation suit top to keep you warm,if you need to wade deeper learn to cast futher or buy a boat! for real winter fishing full floatation suit and moon boots keep you toasty down to about -15

Santa clause might be giving me new waders this crimbo,I've always worn the boot foot type ,but was thinking that maybe the sock type with hiking boots might be a better option as I do tend to fish rock and boulder areas fairly often,and a bit of climbing to get there,so anyone any opinions?

I'm planning on getting stockingfoot too. Same boat as you though, never used them before. I like the thought of having better mobility. I tried them on yesterday, and i must say they where comfy out. Didn't know what to think of the felt sole though but they are supposed to have good grip. I know you can get the stud grips but i'm buying a greys package that includes both waders and boots.

I hear you Rodger on the floatation suit with warm boots. Might get one from Santa if i'm good, but i really want the waders to try get to difficult to reach marks.

One in particular. never ever let me down, but they changed the code on the gate so can't get easy access anymore. only way around now is climb up over a cliff or wade around
